Pushing the boundaries of storytelling, breaking the rules of filmmaking. Dolby Vision is a breathtaking television technology resulting in higher contrast, 100x more brightness, and a wider color gamut than we’d ever seen before in a television screen. The result is a more immersive, more real viewing experience that literally evokes a physiological response from the audience.
This project was a unique opportunity to do all of the things filmmakers are told not to do, like filming real fire, high contrast situations, night scenes without lighting, and nuanced color. The result was a stunning delivery, showing consumers what they’ve been missing and letting creators wield the moving picture like they never had before to deliver stories just the way they envisioned.
Following a successful launch at CES 2014, including Top Product honors, a key success metric was achieved: It wasn’t enough to just get the casual consumer excited about this. We had to get Hollywood onboard. This launch campaign was delivered to the likes of Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and JJ Abrams, whom at the time just happened to be collaborating on the next iteration of one of the most successful franchises in modern cinema. Star Wars became the perfect proving ground for Dolby Vision technology.
